A glazed aluminium roof lantern designed to bring natural daylight into flat roof extensions, kitchens, dining areas and open-plan living spaces. Available in Contemporary 4-pane and Classic 6-pane layouts, with double glazed glass and a thermally broken aluminium frame.

Designed for installation onto a prepared builder’s upstand

The Brett Martin Roof Lantern is engineered for straightforward installation on flat or low-pitch roofs. It should be fitted by competent roofing contractors in line with the official installation guide and relevant safety guidance.

External upstand dimensions The ordered roof lantern size should match the external upstand dimensions.

0° to 5° upstand pitch Suitable for upstand pitches from 0° to 5°. A level upstand is recommended for appearance.

Minimum upstand requirements Minimum upstand height 150mm. Minimum upstand width 85mm for suitable fixing.

Installation checklist

Use competent roofing contractors and follow the Brett Martin installation guide.
Carry out a suitable risk assessment and fall-protection plan before work begins.
Install onto a fully insulated and weathered builder’s upstand.
Ensure the roof covering dresses up the sides and over the top of the upstand.
Provide a level, obstruction-free bearing surface for the roof lantern.

Important safety note

Roof lanterns and rooflights should be considered fragile during installation. Suitable fall-protection measures should be defined in line with CDM regulations and Rooflight Association guidance.

Where blinds or other fittings are installed in the lightwell, position them as far as practicable from the glass and preferably choose light colours to help reduce thermal stress risk.

Laminated vs toughened inner panes

Toughened inner pane Standard option for roof lantern installations where toughened safety glass is suitable.
Laminated inner pane Helps hold the glass together if damaged, reducing the risk of glass falling into the space below.

Pyramid Roof Lantern glass options explained

Choosing the right glass specification is important for daylight, solar control and overhead safety. The answers below explain the key differences between toughened and laminated glass options.

What is the difference between laminated glass and toughened glass?

Laminated glass has two layers of glass bonded with a clear interlayer. If the glass cracks, the interlayer helps hold it together. Toughened glass is heat treated to make it stronger, but if it breaks, it breaks into small pieces and falls away.

What is the best glass option to choose?

The best choice is usually a combination of toughened glass on the outer pane and laminated glass on the inner pane. This is often referred to as toughened over laminated glass.

Laminated glass is commonly recommended for the inner pane because it helps remain in place if damaged, reducing the risk to people below. Toughened glass works well on the outer pane, where it needs to withstand weather and temperature changes.

When should I consider blue solar-control glass?

Blue solar-control glass is useful where reduced glare and solar heat gain are required, particularly on south-facing roofs or large glazed spaces exposed to direct sunlight.

Roof Lantern delivery information

Standard Brett Martin Roof Lantern sizes are typically delivered within 3–5 working days to UK mainland addresses, subject to availability. Bespoke sizes and special specifications are made to order.

Free mainland delivery Available to standard UK mainland addresses.

How your roof lantern is delivered

Delivered kerbside by the Brett Martin transport fleet across the UK mainland.
Glass units and frame are delivered together, typically on an A-frame for secure transport.
Drivers can assist with unloading, but additional capable labour should be available on site.
Sacrificial packing and foam runners help protect the glass during unloading.
The A-frame is removed from site by the driver after delivery.

Delivery cost

Delivery is free to standard UK mainland addresses.

For non-mainland, remote or restricted postcode areas, please contact our team before ordering so we can confirm whether delivery can be arranged.

Important: Please ensure adequate manpower and safe access are available on the day of delivery to unload the roof lantern from the vehicle.

I’m picky about finishes - this passed the test. We went for 2000 x 1500 with Grey outside / White inside. Minor note: a one‑page quick-start guide in the box would be handy, but our installer was fine.

Roof Lantern
I bought a Brett Martin roof lantern to replace a frameless rooflight from another brand that I got not long ago, and it was nothing but hassle. The difference is night and day. The build quality is great, and the customer service was really helpful throughout.

For anyone thinking about buying a roof lantern, don’t make the same mistake I did. Buy from Daylight Systems as you’re buying directly from Brett Martin themselves. Couldn’t be happier.

Glass Roof Lantern
Bought a Glass Roof Lantern (1500 x 1000) in the 4 Pane Contemporary style with white interior / grey exterior and clear TGH/TGH glazing. It’s made a huge difference to the space - the room feels noticeably brighter and the slim frame gives it a really clean, modern finish from both inside and out.

Build quality feels solid and well-made, and once fitted it looks properly “architectural” rather than bulky. The glazing looks great and the overall unit feels premium. Installation onto a prepared upstand was straightforward for our installer and it’s been completely weathertight.

Also worth mentioning: the pricing/discount on my order was excellent value for what you get. Really happy overall and I’d recommend it to anyone upgrading a kitchen extension or flat roof area.
